Dr Peter O’Connell
Consultant in Emergency Medicine, and Occupational Health Physician (retired)
Qualified in 1990 from University College Hospital, London.
Peter worked in a wide range of hospital specialties and General Practice before pursuing a career in Emergency Medicine. He was appointed Consultant in 2003 in the Great Western Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust, Swindon. Peter was responsible for setting up the Trust’s Alcohol Liaison service and served as the departmental clinical lead for Alcohol and Drugs services, and Mental Health. His clinical experience in these areas has been of great benefit in his work with the Insurance Industry. Alongside his hospital career he also undertook training in Occupational Medicine and worked on a sessional basis in Occupational Health.
Peter has over 28 years of experience as a Chief Medical Officer to various Insurance Companies. The objective and expert advice that he provides for Underwriters and Claims Assessors is always presented in a clear and unambiguous manner. He has a wealth of experience of a wide variety of insurance products, including Life, Critical Illness, Income Protection (Corporate and Retail), Discounted Gift Plans and Long-Term Care Plans. His extensive experience as a Chief Medical Officer is particularly beneficial when dealing with complex cases, appeals, complaints, and referrals to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
Peter has a formal teaching qualification (PGCE, Bristol University, 2008) and for over a decade, served as the Director of all the advanced resuscitation training courses in the NHS Foundation Trust, Swindon. He is highly experienced at training Underwriters, Assessors, Medical, Nursing and Paramedical staff. His training material is evidence-based, regularly updated, and is presented utilising validated educational principles. The training is critically evaluated and always achieves excellent feedback ratings.
Dr Debesh Mukherjee
Consultant Physician in General Medicine and Geriatric Medicine (recently retired) Qualified in 1984 from St George’s Hospital Medical School, London.
Debesh undertook specialist training in both General Medicine and Geriatric Medicine and is dually accredited. He was appointed Consultant in 1995 at the Princess Margaret Hospital, Swindon. He has extensive specialist knowledge in General Medicine, particularly Neurology, Cardiology, Endocrine Disorders and Rehabilitation Medicine. He also recently established the Medical Examiner service in Swindon, providing forensic analysis of hospital adult deaths. The service involves liaising with medical services to agree death certification, families for questions and explanations, and the coroner when necessary.
Debesh has considerable experience as a medical manager (Clinical Director Adult Medicine) and medical educator (Foundation Programme Director, Deputy Director of Medical Education), roles that have helped hone skills in clear communication.
Debesh is an accomplished teacher of medical staff, nurses, paramedics, and therapists with extensive experience of teaching these groups at local and national levels. He has worked with CMA Ltd since 2017 and his specialist clinical knowledge has been invaluable in both Underwriting and Claims work. He provides clear and pragmatic opinions which are very well received by Underwriting and Claims teams.
Mr Mike Rigby
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Qualified in 1992 from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London.
Mike undertook a surgical training rotation including Plastic Surgery and Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O) before specialist training in T&O. Mike was appointed Consultant in 2003 in the Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Swindon.
He has over 20 years of experience in managing trauma. In addition to his clinical work, he provides personal injury reports and negligence reports for legal cases.
Mike has been assisting CMA Ltd since 2019, providing expert Orthopaedic opinions, particularly for fracture and disability claims. His reports are written with objectivity and precision and give clear recommendations for Claims Assessors and Underwriters.
Dr Paul Foley
Consultant Cardiologist.
Qualified 1997 from the University of Bristol.
Paul trained on the Brighton medical rotation & ITU at St Thomas Hospital, London. He was appointed to the Wessex cardiology training program, undertook research in Birmingham including an advanced cardiology fellowship. He was appointed to the Great Western Hospital in 2009.
Paul belongs to a panel advising on new technology adoption in the NHS, was clinical lead for cardiology and is now deputy Associate Medical Director for the Division of Medicine. Paul was elected to the Council of the British Heart Rhythm Society in 2009.
Paul is a clinical advisor in cardiology for the Health Service Ombudsman which requires clear, concise & detailed reports. Paul has assisted CMA since 2021 providing expert advice on cardiology issues.
Dr Ignacio Vazquez
Consultant Medical Oncologist
Qualified 2001 from the University of Granada, Spain
Ignacio trained as Medical Oncologist in the North, Central & East London and the West Midlands Rotations. He was appointed as Consultant Medical Oncologist with special interest in Gynaecological and Breast Malignancies in 2016 by East& North Hertfordshire Trust.
Currently Ignacio is the Multidisciplinary Gynaecological Team Lead at East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, and the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Tutor and Education Lead at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood, London.
He is extensively involved in the Research & Development portfolio in Mount Vernon and, as Medical Educator, has a wide involvement with under and postgraduate training requirements.
Ignacio acts as an independent Consultant for pharmaceutical companies, including board and steering committee assessments.
Mr David O’Connell
Director, and Company Secretary.
David was educated at Emanuel School, London and Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. His 21-year career in the Royal Navy included two years in command of the Fleet Clearance Diving Team, commanding HMS SANDOWN and 18 months in the Ministry of Defence in the Directorate of Operational Requirements.
In 1994, David made a career change to work as a Business Consultant for several defence companies, including Australian Defence Industries, Logica Ltd, Thales Underwater Systems and ECA France. In this role, he provided expert advice in his specialist fields for the business capture of national and international sales opportunities, and the provision and running of training courses for military personnel.
David joined CMA Ltd as a director in December 2015, bringing his considerable business experience to the company. His areas of responsibility include Accounts Management, IT and Data Protection, Compliance and Corporate Governance, Business Development and Strategic Management.
